in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of П,Т,Ю,Ч, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

you probably don t know this disco banger, i think there is about 4 or 5 known copies on 7inch, everyone who has a copy has been keeping it quiet. i first heard it from david haffner about 4 years ago and had been after it since then. after a lot of research i came to the conclusion the everyone involved had passed away, but months after giving up after i spotted benitas full name on another related lp credited as a backing singer. i was then able to track down benita who was alive, well and surprised and very happy to hear from me. this one is a beast and will fly out (i find myself saying this far to often).

next up on asking for trouble after selling out the album and re-pressing comes a four track remix ep for radioactive mans luxury sky garden album. life-time friend of radioactive man and control tower partner dexorcist aka simon brown is first up to deliver his take on sonic portal on the a side. his style has always been uncompromising and as a music lover and dj he s been a major influence on tenniswoods style and taste for a long time. dexorcist turns in a detroit influenced banger which goes deep. ben pest then follows with his own take of the same track. a member of funk band pest, purveyor of wonky techno, music tech teacher and hardware enthusiast ben has also released on jerome hills don t label, i love acid and horror boogie to name a few. his take on sonic portal is as genre bending and weighted as youd expect. over on the b side pain struck stanley dumb remix blast furnace - a fast and furious electro track which was released as a digital bonus to the album. they work it into a breakneck speed techno number. taste the amphetamine! completing the package biggabush (aka glyn bush) brings his dub influence to the mix. bush of rockers hi-fi connected with radioactive man during a mastering session asking to do the mix after hearing the record. the results are impressive and provide a welcome tempo and vibe change to the ep with its deep and dubby elements.

juris boiko (1954-2002) and hardijs ledin (1955-2004) were the core members of the nsrd, which is best known as latvian avant-garde, postmodern, experimental and underground music group active in 1980s.
their activities were widely multidisciplinary and they can not be considered as purely musicians since none of them had a professional musical education. their creativity was manifested through variety of media music, performance and action art, visual arts, poetry, samizdat, the introduction video art in latvia etc. nsrd also made a significant contribution to the explanation of the theoretical aspects of art in the interpretation of the postmodernist movement, and developed the independent concept of approximate art. at the end of the 80s, nsrd got connected and performed with several artists and musicians living in west germany, including indulis bilzē,,,,,ns, micky remann and maximilian lenz aka westbam and others.

on rest in space, his first full length outing for music for dreams, the lp keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. the opener rest in space treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. this is followed by the epic night wind which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of nicolas jaar & dave harringtons darkside project. seikleos centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic popcorn) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track future days brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both sheila chandra and tom tom club. also included is the previously released digital single agit as well as a remix by berlin-based m.rux, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. the stunning ikaru wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. tawhid is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. lastly comes gorgeous eastern guitar opus the true word of the wind and the warm vibey dreamscape following. as a whole, islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.

million brazilians formed in portland, oregon in 2006. founding members grant corum and suzanne stone have been central to the band since its inception, while a rotating line-up backs them depending on the latest vision for the sound. tip! the band carry out their own interpretation of a genre bending ethos that has evolved throughout the american underground. drifting between boundless compositions, focused energetic improvisations and experimental collaborations that embrace a weird sort of transcendence. their next installment red rose and obsidian was recorded in maine and engineered by big bloods caleb mulkerin. both he and the band deliver a powerful yet fragile and personal release. the mythical and evocative recordings are inspired by maine s rugged coastlines, mournful ripples of sound wash up on the shore, whilst a lonesome, at times harrowing saxophone drifts through the rolling mountains, providing unsettling melodic interludes. electronic treatments veil organic sounds, a fleeting whistle meets spontaneously with spacey flutes, mutated rock rhythms are topped off with the soaring vocals of suzanne stone who leads the listeners into the magical world of the million brazilians.

house for her is a label founding its birth in the need that she s gone had to express his feelings in his mixes and productions. the time came to him, 1 year ago to give the floor to other people, to let everyone build pieces of music around their lived experience. in this release, the four artists came to cover in mist the wax in a cascade of tablecloths sometimes soft and other times more aggressive, to develop a ep rich in questioning, ranging from dance pieces to other more ambient things, linking them together to tell a story. raär and mp-57, as usual, darkened in the pile, revealing brutal tracks but nevertheless completely full of feelings. devant, with a more colorful touch, has come to appease the ep of a piece of a house deep and sexy, endowed with an atmosphere reminding us much nostalgia. and finally entrave, in a final piece, quietly envelops us to finish to walk in this ep, as in a novel, a kind of sombre happy-end.

commonly found lurking around l.i.e.s., technicolour and w.t. records, florian kupfer has plenty of credentials in the noisier end of the hardware house and techno scene, so it makes perfect sense to find him sidling up to valcron video in collaborative moder with torn hawk. the results are predictably excellent, from the gnarled emotional wrangles of -fake blood to the blown out ambience of hungry for candy. sweet tooth comes on like a dishevelled club workout, and then manipulation rounds the record off with a tongue in cheek spoken word and ambience piece that packs some serious music underneath the irreverent chit chat.

the intergalactic research institute for sound presents de, a compilation of various artists representing georgian electronic and ambient music. / de is a compilation of music from artists of different backgrounds getting together in order to showcase the dynamic influences within the georgian scene. tbilisi is getting worldwide recognition at the moment for its booming club scene, but what this project aims to illustrate is what is happening outside of the club context. natalie beridze who has been performing worldwide since 2004 is known as the first female electronic music artist in georgia, rezo glonti has built his studio inside the hull of his boat, and zesknel is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, while myi and severiane were discovered thanks to myspace, soundcloud, and word-of-mouth. all these talents manage in their own ways to present / de, with murky and melancholic cuts. melancholia is at the core of beauty in georgia. that is not the case in germany and many other cultures, where melancholia is often charged and bound to a negative feeling, which some might perceive as weakness. consequently, one could be tempted to say that even if its electronic music, de has a traditional georgian quality. but that would be putting art in boxes or cases because what is georgian art nowadays, when so many artists from this origin are scattered around? as giorgi maisuradze states in his mission statement for de, the world is their home.

der begriff kult wird inzwischen leider inflationär gebraucht, aber angesichts der wiederveröffentlichung des albums -music for commercials- kommt man nicht drum rum: die ursprünglich 1987 im rahmen der legendären -made to measure--serie bei crammed erschienene platte hat definitiv ein sehr hohes kultpotenzial. nicht umsonst wird die scheibe noch heute gesucht und entsprechend hochpreisig secondhand gehandelt. doch damit dürfte angesichts der - von crammed verantworteten - neuauflage schluss sein, zumal das werk des japanischen produzenten, komponisten und saxofonisten yasuaki shimizu nun auch als lp und cd erscheint. shimizu, der in seiner langen karriere eine gewaltige zahl an alben, soundtracks und kollaborationen (ryuichi sakamoto, van dyke parks, pierre barouh, björk, elvin jones) herausbrachte, vereint auf -music for commercials- eine kollektion an werbe-jingles, die ursprünglich für kunden wie seiko, sharp oder honda entstanden, tatsächlich auch so heißen und im japanischen tv liefen. für die neuauflage wurden die tracks remastered.
